How to demo a kitchen in three easy steps.
Step 1: Buy a house (with a kitchen).
Step 2: Buy a sledgehammer.
Step 3: Attack kitchen in house with sledgehammer until all walls are lying on the floor in a spiky, moderately dangerous heap.
That's all there is to it really. ;)
Unfortunately I do not have any "before" pictures of the kitchen. It was really ugly and dated. As you can see here, we made it look quite beautiful.
All right, all right, we have a strange definition of beautiful, but trust me, it's better than it looked when we started. And we tried our best to shield the house from all of the dust, but do you see those tarps over the fridge and covering the doors?
Completely ineffective. We very quickly learned that dust from nearly 78 year-old plaster walls gets everywhere. EVERYWHERE. It especially got all over us.
As hard as it was, it was all worth it. Just over a year later, our kitchen looks shiny and new and is full of sparkling new cabinets and appliances!
HA HA HA!!! I lost my mind for a moment there. Just over a year later, our kitchen looks almost exactly the way you see it in this post. In the meantime, we managed to gut a pantry and convert it to a second bathroom, and that DOES look shiny and new. (I'll scrounge up some picture eventually). We also gutted the upstairs bathroom and are currently in the process of remodeling that, too. Progress is definitely being made.
Some day, I promise to tell you exactly what we did to the kitchen and bathrooms, hopefully with pictures to help you get the full experience. :)
